2018/2019 Canvassing Program Report
,
Summer of '18/'19 in Melbourne was Eastward Mission's trial run of a canvassing program across two locations. In brief, it worked! God is good. The larger team worked out of Heritage College, Cranbourne; Melbourne's eastern suburbs. A more compact team canvassed from Geelong Seventh-day Adventist Church, far away in the west.
Program statistics
2,972 total magabooks and 6,289 small copies of Steps to Christ.
- Wholesome Homemade: 1,038
- The Great Controversy: 997
- Health and Peace (The Ministry of Healing): 405
- Peace Above the Storm (Steps to Christ): 398
- Lessons of Love (Christ's Object Lessons): 150
- Kid's books: 202
- DVDs: 294
51 canvassers submitted topsheets (a daily report of books and donations) during the Melbourne program, up from 37 on the 2017/2018 program. 22 young people had never canvassed during a large summer program before. Four had never canvassed before, full stop. Another 12 only had a few hours or days prior experience. Was it a sacrifice for these students to give up their summer break? Some may have thought it so in the beginning, but the blessedness of seeing how closely heaven worked with their efforts was ample reward.
Two sides of testimonies
Program life
We took time out to relax and explore Victoria over the Christmas and new years public holidays. The Grampians, Great Ocean Road and the Twelve Apostles, giant redwoods in Otway National Park, and Mount Donna Buang and the Yarra Valley.
Also notable were our first international participants from Germany, the Netherlands, and Japan. More Japanese canvassers from Youth Rush Japan plan to attend upcoming Eastward Missions summer programs.
Maps of canvassed territory
Cranbourne covered in book pins! 2,462 magabooks and 4,794 small copies of Steps to Christ.
Geelong, Colac, Winchelsea and more. 517 magabooks plus 1,495 small copies of Steps to Christ.
LE Advance
By the end of week 5, God had blessed us with higher magabook numbers than those from six weeks worth of canvassing in previous years. Literature Evangelist Advance started on a high note during week 6 (January 20, 2019). What a special time of inspiring meetings and fellowship!
Daniel Fukuda (Youth Rush Japan) and Pastor Aoki Yasuki (Youth Ministries, Japan Union Conference) spoke about youth ministry and the canvassing work in Japan. Colin Hone and Ettienne McClintock presented The Entrance Church Plant vision.
Andrew Kochanski (Jump Start Australia & New Zealand) ran through God's leading in how Jump Start started. Eugene Prewitt brought history to life with the story of magabook canvassing in the United States. Then he told even more gripping stories from the pioneering literature evangelism work in predominantly Muslim Malaysia!
Our publications are now sowing the gospel seed, and are instrumental in bringing as many souls to Christ as the preached word. Whole churches have been raised up as the result of their circulation.

I just wanted to thank the music camp team for introducing me to canvassing and for inspiring me to start a canvassing group here in Christchurch.
