Helping People
,
Many years ago, it was said that the "love of many would grow cold" (Matt 24:12). This is true of western societies now. Kindness, generosity, caring and empathy are qualities rarely found in today's generation.
As Christians, it's our priviledge to counteract this. Jesus spent his life ministering to the needs of people. Physically and spiritually. He gave his life. That is: His time, energy, money, etc. to help people.
Consider this example given by James:
"If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and if one of you says to them, Go in peace, be warmed and filled, but you do not give them those things which are needful to the body, what good is it?" - James 2:15-16, MKJV
Do we see people who have a need, and say 'be warmed and filled', rather than actually go out of our way to help them. I know I need to draw closer to Christ, to drink more from the fountain of love myself so I can have a heart that truly cares.
While being on the road, we've had opportunity from time to time to do practical things to help people. Pulling weeds, sweeping pathways and doing treework.
Below are some photos from a lady we met in Rockhampton who had some damaged trees from a cyclone that came through earlier in the year. Andy spent most of the day cleaning up the trees. Tim and I helped clear the debris after lunch. I had a nice chat with her about missionary work as well. She had bought the book 'Peace Above the Storm' the day before.
