And then there was none....
,
You know the days that seems to go along as normal and then... something completely unexpected happens, and you are left with your mouth hanging open wondering what just happened.
Wednesday was one of those days at the Eastward Garden. In a short 20 minutes we went from transplants, cultivating, harvesting as usual, to destruction. Hail stones, some as large as tennis balls, battered our garden, completely destroying some crops, and significantly damaging all others. Only the tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini & a few beetroot growing in our polyhouse were spared.
So, what now? For some crops we start again, others we will wait a few more days to see if they come back or if we are better off just pulling them out and starting again with them also.
We will salvage all that we can! Our table may be a little bare on Tuesday and some of our veggies may be a little more marked than we usually like them to be. Box customers, if something you order doesn't make it into your box it is because we thought we might be able to salvage enough but haven't been able to. Please be forgiving as we try to make the most of what we have.
Now is probably a good time to thank those of our customers who via the ABC news and Country Hour, on Facebook, Instagram or via word of mouth have heard of our misfortune and sent messages to encourage us. These have been much appreciated. Thank you.
Despite all of the above, as usual there is always an upside. No one was hurt, there was very little structual damage except that incured by the polyhouse as it saved the veggies inside, and we have an opportunity to feel the pain of a bad day which just makes the joy of a good day all the sweeter. Stand up straigh, shoulders back, look up, and keep going!
The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord. Job 1:21
