Spring busyness
,
"What a wondrous time is spring, when all the trees are budding; the birds begin to sing, the flowers start their blooming..."
The words of that 1970's song perfectly describe life for us just at the moment - it's all happening! We could well sing, "What a busy time is spring..."
This week we have spent 2 mornings picking for market, a whole day at market and another half day visiting people with deliveries, half a day in the shed cleaning up while it was raining (wasn't that a fantastic little drop?), prepared some beds for planting, cultivated a bunch of beds, planted beetroot, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, lettuce, beans, eggplant, zuchinni and pumpkins, seeded 10 or 15 trays of seedlings, hilled the potatoes with the tractor, finished preparing the beds in our polyhouse ready for tomato and cucumber seedlings, battled the white cabage moth and the ducks and the bower birds, layed trickle irrigation in the polyhouse and in the potato and pumpkin patch, etc, etc, etc.
There are many hundreds of seedlings in the nursury waiting to be put to bed, rhubarb eager for a feed, trace elements to be applied, compost to be spread, choko's to be planted, beds to be prepared for outside tomatoes and cucumbers, a shadehouse waiting to be erected, raspberries to be planted out, corn to be planted, nearly daily watering is ongoing, green manure crops to be planted in our expansion area, citrus orchard ground preparation and then planting is months overdue...
And it is all great fun! Sometimes, if I think too much about what needs to be done, it can be a little daunting. But if I take things day by day, I'm ok.
Busy? Yes. Working long hours? Yes. Finding financial success? Not so much. But satisfying? Yes, so satisflying. I can't think of anything else I'd rather be doing right now...
"I wish for you my friend, this happiness that I've found..."
